Thanks for your question. The answer is that soldiers always receive an element of pre-deployment training before they go on operations, so you wouldn't be sent straight from basic.

Basic training itself can take a long time, depending on what part of the army you are joining, and does include leave periods. You might then quickly find yourself being prepared to deploy overseas, but you would receive more training, and likely more time off, before you left the UK.
