I want to go to university to do a chemistry degree, but I also want to join the army (probably the Royal Engineers). Is there any point in going to university as there isn't a direct link to the role I want to do? And can I still apply for the STEM bursary? (I can't study engineering at university as I don't do maths A-Level). Thanks!
Hello,
Yes there would be purpose in uni if you were going to join as an officer and you would only receive a bursary if you were to do that. If that's not your intention, then uni would have its own merits, but you would only need GCSE certificates to join as a solider. If you joined as a solider in an engineering role you would be trained to do that job (and more) and wouldn't need any prior engineering qualification or experience.
thanks.
