Thank you for your question, it is one a lot of people ask. You'll be pleased to hear that you can absolutely manage a life outside the army, indeed it is encouraged. Unless you are on operations or exercise, life in the army often runs much like any other job over about 8 hours a day and 5 days a week. This means that you can enjoy all the benefits that anyone else working in the area might have access to.
Examples include families joining local kids clubs, being parts of civilian sports teams and even having second jobs.
In terms of how often you stay on camp, there is a huge variety of options. Some people will live on camp and spend most weekends there. Some people own their own houses and commute in and out of work daily. Lots of people go back to their family homes at the weekends and families with an army partner will be entitled to army housing which is often situated with lots of other army families that always end up creating their own communities that get together outside of work.
