How hard is the physical section to becoming an Educational and Training Services (ETS) Officer?

Anonymous asked a question to Josh S.

Could you maybe give specifics? I always see the general "44 week Training on leadership, military skills" etc but id love to know what it truly entails.

Thank you for your question. Physical fitness is, of course, a key component of all military service and it is no different for the ETS. The standards for an ETS officer are ultimately the same as for all other Regular officer roles up until the point of completing the commissioning course at Sandhurst.

Initially you must pass the physical test standards at AOSB. For these and the other tests, there are lots of resources available, but the Army website is a good place to start.

Once you arrive at RMAS there are a long list of physical tests which you will be required to pass, from the 2km run to marching carrying weight. There are also the big ticket physical events such as Ex LONGREACH, which is a couple of days walking over the Brecon Beacons, a log race and others.

My advice to every applicant is that if you can make the AOSB standard then you can pass RMAS. The entry standard is just that - a start point. The instructors at Sandhurst will develop you through the remaining requirements, even if you have never carried a heavy rucksack before. Again, the army website contains useful advice about getting fit.

    I hope that helps.
