Phones can be used often and daily throughout the Army, including the REME. Naturally there are some exceptions to this, for example:

• During training hours in Basic Training.
• During operations and some exercises.
• In situations where it would be unsafe to do so:
  • Areas with SECRET equipment.
  • While driving or operating machinery.
  • In explosive atomospheres.
• While walking through camp (walking around on your phone is unprofessional and ill-disciplined).

This isn't an exhaustive list, but most soldiers, including myself, carry their personal phone with them during work and use it regularly.
