It sounds like a difficult situation. The final decision is yours alone to make, some people are only against it because they don't understand it, so it may be worth trying to have that conversation or take them with you to the careers office so they are more informed.
That being said, if its something you want to do regardless then you're old enough to make the application without parental consent and it will be up to you if you tell your them or not.
Please bear in mind just because you have put in your application doesn't mean you have to or are eligible to join and you can withdraw at any stage of you application should you feel its not right for you.
