Thank you for your question. Of course it is incredibly important to find a work/life balance so it is very reasonable to ask.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to give an exact answer. During basic training, and occasionally while on courses, are the only real times where your life in the military is strictly laid out for a period of time and you know exactly when you will be home. However, these periods are often the times when you have the least time off due to the intensity of the training.
Outside of these training periods, much of the army is like any other job where you go to work in the morning and come home in the evening. But the army is incredibly varied and the role and rank your partner has will definitely have an effect on how often you see each other.
Soldiers should also expect to be away on exercise or operations at times, and these could mean quite long stretches away from family.
All that said, I have spent the vast majority or my days as a parent at home with my family. I get to put my kids to bed most evenings and a lot of the army has that same experience. The best thing to do is to ask the recruiters, or people that work in the army in a similar job to the one your partner wants, about their experiences.
I hope that helps.
