my question is, is it the right choice?

Anonymous asked a question to Carl S.

i’m currently enrolled into infantry i’m on phase 2 and i’m thinking about transferring over to rlc (driver) and i’m having constant thoughts about not really wanting to do infantry, not forever but for now it’s not what i wanna do fully 100% so i don’t know whether i just stick to it but then i’ll be in battalion hating it each day, but it would also be fun and have great experiences and well i’m really not sure on what i wanna do and what route i should take. i was gonna do the rest of my four years on driver then transfer back once im fully prepared for it but i’m not sure and need advice on whether what is the right choice.

That's a really important question, and certainly something worth considering. It sounds like it is weighing heavily on you and means an awful lot.

I think a pragmatic approach is to talk to your chain of command and see what they can help you with. They will want the best for you too. Basic training can be incredibly hard at times, and will sometimes result in you having second thoughts, but life at battalion is often very different and there will be lots of people there to support you.

Ultimately, it is your career, so it is a decision only you can make. Importantly, it is vital that you are enjoying what you do, so I would certainly recommend talking to your leaders and going through your options.
