    Aaron R. Vehicle Mechanic

    Hi James,
I will answer your second questions first. If you have an interest in being a mechanic and working with your hands, being a vehicle mechanic in the REME is the best job in the world. The amount of knowledge, qualifications and experience you can gain is immense and the vehicles we work on are pretty cool so that also helps. So yes I will always say being a mechanic is a great way to go.
To answer your primary question. Establishing a good work life balance is one of the most important thing to succeeding in any job never mind the Army. At times the Army can be a tough job so we always have measures in place to ensure we can have that work/life balance. I'd say 80-90% of the time we will be able to travel home to see friends and family on weekends along with having 6-7 weeks of leave to take through out the year. The Army isn't your typical 9-5 job but we absolutely have our freedom to see friends and family when we can. The only time this doesn't apply is when we are on operations or exercise.
    Hope this helps
    A:)
