Finn L. asked a question to Claire W.
I am currently in Australia and planning to come back at the start of August and I can’t find a date on when the carpentry and joinery programme starts
Hello Finn,
You won't be able to find start dates for trade training because they are not published outside the Ministry of Defence. You'll be loaded onto your respective trade training course at your Initial Trade Training (ITT) stage, this will be after you complete Basic Training.
So I should apply when I am home in august is that correct?
Finn,
You can apply at any time, though it's worth noting that applying is only the first step on your journey to joining the Army. After applying, you'll have a medical review and a career discussion at your local Armed Forces Career Office. If everything looks good, you'll have to attend and pass the Assessment Centre. When you've successfully passed the Assessment Centre you'll get a starting date to begin Basic Training.
Because the process can take a while, the usual advice is to apply as early as possible. Personally, if I were in your position, I would start the application process now so that you can get some of the checks done remotely before you return home. Ultimately this is your choice, though, so if you'd be more comfortable waiting until August then of course you can do.
Thanks a lot
