Do you need to do all nine
During basic training you will do a selection of AT such as hill walking, caving, rock climbing and canoeing/kayaking. After training, you can pick which ones you enjoy and gain qualifications in that area. For example, I enjoy sailing and climbing but I know people who do skiing, mountain biking, and parachuting. There are more than 9 available so do what interests you. My top tip would be to give anything a go to see if you enjoy it or not.
I absolutely agree with Matthew's answer. During basic training (or even when you get to unit ) they run a multi activity package where often you can try a few as you do a different one each day.
I got into Nordic Skiing (biathlon (the one when you ski on flats and uphills with a rifle on your back)) totally by accident - i thought i was volunteering to go kayaking! When i rocked up to this place in the middle of Dartmoor and people were talking about skiing and shooting i realised i was definitely in the wrong place for kayaking (i'd never really seen snow and hadn't really shot much at that point) - anyway, i was persuaded to stay! 4 years on i did my instructor qualification! I still love it now, 20 years on and quite often wonder what i would have missed out on if i'd not misheard and volunteered for 'kayaking!'
Give every opportunity a go - it's the best thing about being in the military -the whole point of AT is about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone but sometimes you might find you end up having a passion for something you didn't even know existed!!
